An exciting new event this year! Hillside will be having a Festival of Cultures! Families are invited to share their culture through song, dance or hosting a table with a trifold display about their country. All are welcome to learn about the many countries that make up the Hillside community. Children will get their passports stamped as they “travel” from country to country and engage in fun activities. Please contact Robin Gamrath Schauman (207-939-4847) if you would like to host a table or know someone who would like to perform.
The PTC depends very heavily on parent volunteerism. We are fortunate to have many very dedicated parents who step up each year to run committees, but we are always looking for more help! Below are some great volunteer opportunities we hope you will consider:
Train with the current coordinator to learn the ropes for next year. The volunteer coordinator helps to organize the volunteer schedule using Sign-Up Genius and collaborates with Ms. Hitron. For more information or if you are interested, please contact Nikki Amara Myers.
The PTC Co-Presidents would love some additional help identifying potential new sources of fundraising revenue for the school. We also need help raising sponsorship dollars to cover the up-front costs of organizing the Halloween 5K event as well as donations for our annual calendar raffle that will be held in the spring. If you have great ideas are a particular strength in soliciting donations, the PTC would love to have you as part of the team!
Seema Meloni is completing her final year as PTC president and we are looking for someone to work as Co-President with Joanna Herrera next year. This is an incredibly rewarding job in so many ways. If you are interested or want to learn more about this role, please reach out to us! Email Joanna or Seema.
Our wonderful coordinator that has been chairing this event for several years is retiring from her role and we are looking for someone to take over. She has left detailed notes to make it an easy transition. We’d love for someone to step in early while she’s still a Hillside parent so that all questions can be answered!
The annual, PTC-hosted Staff Appreciation Luncheon is a much anticipated and fun event that gives each of us the opportunity to thank the wonderful staff at Hillside for all that they do on behalf of our children.
To ensure the event is a true success, we need lots of parent help! One big area where we need parents is to cover the classrooms while the teachers and staff are eating – if you can help out in your child’s class, please, please sign up!
Even if you cannot be at the school the day of the event, there are plenty of other ways to help (including, provide items for the décor, cook/bake food items for the luncheon, purchase ice, etc.); anything you can do is greatly appreciated!
Please contact Christine Holland (617-510-6529) with questions or to volunteer; click on the "Sign Up" button and do it online or click on the "Print the Form" button and send in a completed copy before Friday, May 13th.
Save the Date! ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) training prepares individuals to handle the threat of an active shooter. This program has been adopted by the Town of Needham and training at all schools is already underway.
“ALICE teaches individuals to participate in their own survival, while leading others to safety. Though no one can guarantee success in this type of situation, this new set of skills will greatly increase the odds of survival should anyone face this form of disaster.”
The training program is designed to teach kids about safety without making them scared. To learn more about what your children will be learning, we encourage you to attend this meeting.
The snow is gone and it is now time to think about the spring raffle! Please help us secure donations that kids and families would love to win. This annual fundraiser helps the Hillside PTC raise much-needed funds to support the PTC-sponsored enrichment programs. It also offers an opportunity for participants to win some great prizes. This year, the raffle will run from June 6-10, with prizes awarded every school day. The raffle period will close out with the raffling off of some large prize items at the Spring Carnival on Sunday, June 12th.
